Baton Rouge,
La. - At the end
of each legislative session, Louisiana Family Forum Action recognizes
a “Gladiator” – one individual who has gone above
and beyond the call to fight for families across Louisiana. Past
recipients have led the charge to protect marriage and life in Louisiana.
This year’s Gladiator worked to protect Louisiana families’
pocketbook.
Gene Mills, president of Louisiana
Family Forum Action had this to say on announcing the selection
of Louisiana Speaker of the House Jim Tucker (R-Terrytown) as the
2009 LFF Action Gladiator:
“The Louisiana Legislature,
led by House Speaker Jim Tucker, fought off major efforts to raise
taxes during the 2009 Fiscal Session that concluded in late June.
“This is the first time in
modern Louisiana history that a projected budget deficit was filled
with budget cuts rather than tax increases! We have Speaker Tucker
and Governor Jindal to thank for this principled turnaround of fiscal
policy in our state.
“Governor Jindal proclaimed
that we didn’t need higher taxes and Speaker Tucker engineered
the defeat of Senate initiatives aimed at raising them.
“Speaker Tucker, for his unyielding
efforts on behalf of taxpaying families across Louisiana, is LFF
Action’s selection for the 2009 Gladiator Award!
